The Five C’s of Credit!
Capacity: the business’s ability to continue to generate sufficient cashflow to meet its ongoing financial obligations
Capital: the level of financial investment that the owners have invested in the business
Collateral: other assets that the business owners may have available to offer as security in order to mitigate some of the lending risks
Conditions: the external environment that could impact the business, including: economic, legal and regulatory, competitive, technological conditions etc.
Character: who are the key people involved in operating the business (not just the owners), what are their backgrounds, skills and capabilities? How reliant is the business on each individual?
